AARP Seeking Survey Participants Group Gathers Info to Help Seniors Stay Independent Longer

Daughter and her husband meets happy mother at threshold

AARP is conducting a survey about vital housing options like accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in your community. An ADU is an independent, permanent residential unit, containing a living area, kitchen, and bathroom, built on the same lot as an existing single-family house. ADUs can be attached to or detached from the main house. Other terms like in-law unit, carriage house, or garage apartment are often used to describe an ADU. ADUs can enable older adults to remain in their current residence with live-in care; make it possible for younger adults to assist their aging parents, other relatives and loved ones; or generate rental income for a homeowner.

This short survey will only take about 15 minutes to complete and will provide valuable information regarding housing and ADUs. The results of this survey will be used to create resources and information for ADU owners and those who seek to build ADUs. By participating in this survey, you agree that AARP may utilize and/or publish your responses in the form of aggregate data. Any personally identifiable information included in responses will be kept confidential.
